Strahd Returns To D&D 5E In ‘Curse of Strahd’

D&D Curse of strahdOn March 15, 2016, Wizards of the Coast will release Curse of Strahd, the next addition to the Dungeons & Dragons storyline for 5th edition.

The original adventure, Ravenloft, was written by Tracy and Laura Hickman and published in 1983. The Hickman duo teamed up again to collaborate in the writing of this new adventure, which is set in Castle Ravenloft and the land of Barovia. In this new adventure, the players are drawn into the cursed land of Barovia and forced to face the vampire Strahd von Zarovich. If they wish to succeed, they must heed the warnings of the mysterious fortune teller Madam Eva, who who directs the adventurers to gather artifacts and allies with hints from cards in her tarroka deck.

D&D Curse of strahd bookThe 224-page Curse of Strahd adventure will be published in hardcover and aimed at character levels 1 through 10. Written by Chris Perkins, Tracy Hickman and Laura Hickman, it will retail at the MSRP of $49.95.

What I find super fun about this adventure is that Gale Force Nine will be producing a physical tarroka deck for use with the adventure. Dungeon Masters can use the tarroka deck to randomize locations within the adventure. MSRP was not announced, though.

According to Chris Perkins, principal story designer at Wizards of the Coast:

“Revisiting the land of Barovia with the creators of the original Ravenloft adventure has been a highlight of my professional career. Tracy and Laura Hickman created a timeless villain whose faults reflect the darkest traits of humanity. I can’t begin to describe what it’s like to walk through the halls of Castle Ravenloft with its creators as your guides.”
